Blush Lane is Alberta's (possibly Canada's) only certified organic retail outlet. This gives our customers the highest level of certainty that they are buying truly organic produce. Unlike most other stores we do not sell non-organic produce next to organic produce because we believe this is deceptive to our customers. Organic is different. Growing organic produce takes more time and attention, which shows in the quality and taste of our produce. An Overview of QMI's New Organic Program Taken from the QMI website: "The organic industry, growing at a rate of about 20 percent per annum, is the fastest growing sector of agriculture in the United States. That is because almost any product sold, labeled or represented as organic must now be certified under this new National Organic Program (NOP) standard. An Organic Certification audit guarantees that the grower or processor has an approved process in place to manufacture the organic product. Several divisions of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) are involved in the enforcement and regulation of the NOP. Prior to this standard's introduction, variations in organic certification requirements existed depending on which company offered the certification, where the product was produced, etc. This caused confusion for customers, who were losing confidence in organic products. Regulation of the organic standard in the U.S. renewed confidence in organic products available within North America. Canada is considering similar regulation." |
