At Blush Lane, all of our produce is Certified Organic. This process involves keeping anintricate paper trail, yearly inspections by a VO (verification officer), and the occasional surprise inspection. Currently this is done by certifying bodies such as PACS (Pacific Agriculture Certification Society)in BC and QMI (Quality Management International) in Alberta. The key reason for third party inspections and certification is to create and maintain standards that you, the consumer, can rely on.
June 2009 will present a major step forward in the Canadian organic industry, as a Canadian wide CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) enforced standard will be introduced. The Canadian Organic Regime will be a standard on par with the USDA NOP (National Organic Program) and will require all organic product crossing provincial borders to be certified ISO 65 compliant. That's a lot of acronyms making sure your food is truly ORGANIC.
